What size ceiling fan do I need?
- Up to 75 sq ft: 29 to 36 in blades.
- 76 to 144 sq ft: 36 to 42 in.
- 144 to 225 sq ft: 44 to 50 in.
- 225 to 400 sq ft: 50 to 54 in.
- Over 400 sq ft: 56 in or larger, or two fans.
Keep blades at least 7 ft above the floor (8 to 9 ft is ideal). Low ceilings call for a hugger fan. Porches need a damp-rated fan, and spots exposed to rain need a wet-rated fan, which matters in Georgia's storms and humidity.
What direction should a ceiling fan spin in summer?
Counterclockwise (looking up), which pushes air down for a cooling breeze. Switch to clockwise on low in winter.
What is a fandelier?
A ceiling fan styled like a chandelier, often with enclosed blades, so one fixture gives both light and air movement.
Can I use an indoor fan on a covered porch?
No. Use a damp-rated fan for covered porches and a wet-rated fan where rain can reach it.
