Sizing a vanity light
Choose a bar about three-quarters the width of the mirror (never wider than the vanity) and mount it 75 to 80 in above the floor. Double vanities can take one long bar or a separate light over each sink. Lights that shine both up and down reduce shadows on the face.

About three-quarters of the mirror's width, and never wider than the vanity itself.
Can vanity lights face up or down?
Many can be mounted either way. Facing up washes the ceiling with soft light; facing down puts more light on the counter.
